The long coastal line of Kerala stretches right from the Northwestern districts to the Southwestern ones. Somewhere towards the southern coast of Kerala is Alappuzha, with its amazing beaches that offer travellers truly amazing experiences. Thottappally Beach is one of these not-so-popular beaches that will fascinate a traveller with its charm and poetic beauty. Also a popular fishing harbour in the region, the beach is active throughout the day time, yet has enough beauty in it to provide the warmth of comfort to every visitor.
Thottappally Beach finds mention in the legendary Malayalam novel 'Chemmeen’, one of the reasons it shot to popularity during those times. However, today the beach is more popular for its fishing activities and tourism potential. The beach is a great spot to walk around, relax and enjoy the views of the sea. Watching the sunset too is a popular attraction in the area. One of the other attractions in this area is the Thottappally Spillway. The spillway is constructed to separate the freshwater from the Thottappally Lake and the saline water present at the mouth of the river that drains into the Arabian Sea.
